Get Grounded In The Classroom Part 1

This course is designed to help teachers K-12 alleviate the stress of the demanding career of a classroom teacher. Teachers give so much of their heart, energy, time and devotion to their job and often become overwhelmed and drained from all that is required to perform their job with excellence. Participants will learn specifically through Grounded yoga poses, alignment and breathing techniques how to cultivate the qualities necessary to be a respected, productive, energetic, joyful, and connected teacher. This 10 hour Get Grounded in the Classroom part 1 course provides teachers with 11 essential elements to cultivate within themselves to improve their teaching experience and live a happier, healthier life. During the course, we will explore how and why each quality matters and which specific Grounded yoga poses, alignments and breathing techniques work so that the teacher embodies these qualities that will profoundly affect each teacher for the better.

Participants will be able to

  • Improve student achievement by being able to more effectively tune into and identify individual student’s needs.
  • Improve student achievement through effective management of the classroom.
  • Improve student achievement through high expectations and effective, meaningful interactions.
  • Improve student achievement by demonstrating and modeling what it means to be grounded, aware, stable, centered, focused, receptive, able to successfully handle challenges and of service to others.

As a result of this course, participants will demonstrate their ability to

  1.  See the big picture. Remember and reaffirm the overall purpose of their teaching and the desired outcome.
  2. Be more sensitive and aware of what is happening in the classroom in order to better serve the learning needs of each student. This includes setting the foundation for the classroom physical setting that allows the students to observe the focus of instruction, to work without disruption, to obtain materials, and move about easily and that allows the teacher to monitor students visually and by moving among them.
  3.  Connect with their breath in order to flow with the demands and expectations of being a teacher of excellence.
  4. Identify and solidify great teaching skills and learn positive and innovative child centered classroom management techniques.
  5. Plug in to their center of energy to access the mind/body connection in order to stay centered during times of stress, be able to lead a large group in an orderly fashion, think quickly and respond in a helpful and appropriate manner to a variety of typical and non typical situations.
  6. Use simple yoga alignment actions to physically make more space in the body in order to move more freely and bring longevity to teaching with heartfelt enthusiasm and commitment.
  7. Use simple yoga alignment actions to physically connect with the core of energy in the body in order move more powerfully with inner strength. This translates into such teaching skills as a commitment to excellence, perseverance, stability and a powerful classroom presence.
  8. Recognize any patterns in their teaching methods that are not in alignment with what best serves the students and will produce the desired outcomes. This recognition is the first step toward refining teaching strategies and behaviors that create the optimal teaching and learning environment.
  9. Establish and keep the perspective necessary to maintain appropriate student behavior by using low profile and timely interventions such as proximity control, eye contact, and signals while providing positive feedback or redirection when necessary.
  10. Speak and communicate clearly and effectively and use an economy of words and wait time to maximize learning, hold the student’s attention and promote discussion and the involvement of the whole class.
  11. Be a grounding and connecting force in the classroom that leads students to reach their highest potential. Such success roots the students in self confidence and provides them with a solid foundation on which to build their best lives.

 

Get Grounded In The Classroom Part 2

This course is designed to help teachers K-12 implement Grounded yoga methodology and mindfulness techniques so that what they are already teaching and instructing each and every day at school becomes more meaningful, less stressful and profoundly uplifting. This 10 hour Grounded in the Classroom Part 2 course provides professional educators with Grounded lesson plans and curriculum integration tips so that they can incorporate yoga into their classroom on a daily basis to improve academic performance, social interactions, self-esteem, emotional awareness and self-regulating behaviors. The tools aid in classroom management by teaching the kids certain yoga poses and breathing techniques that enable them to control their energy and improve focus and concentration.

Participants will be able to

  • Consistently provide a classroom environment that is supportive of all students, maximizes instructional time and motivates students for excellence.
  • Design and implement instructional lesson plans that reflect best teaching practices and that target all student learning needs including intellectual, social and emotional intelligence.
  • Utilize yoga to provide differentiated instruction and effectively monitor and assess student progress in a variety of ways.
  • Positively impact each student’s life by being a good example of a responsible, aware, hard working, grounded person.

As a result of this course, participants will demonstrate their ability to

  1. See the big picture. This includes outlining lesson plan objectives that match the required grade level course core curriculum.
  2. Guide the students to maintain a classroom physical setting that allows them to focus on instruction, to work without disruption, to obtain materials, and move about purposefully.
  3. Incorporate Grounded yoga breathing techniques and mindfulness in the development and implementation of appropriate procedures for classroom routine tasks and easeful transitions.
  4. Identify, interact with and learn from teachers who already demonstrate great teaching skills and classroom management. For example, using tactics that encourage the active involvement of students in the lesson, that maximize learning time, that consistently monitor student progress, that support and dignify students’ involvement and efforts.
  5. Teach students how to find their center of energy to access the mind/body connection in order to stay centered and self-regulating in situations that may otherwise trigger disruptive behavior and negative default responses.
  6. Use yoga poses to unwind, relieve stress and tension in the body so that students are then able to then settle, sit still and learn.
  7. Instruct students in simple yoga alignment actions to physically connect with the core of energy in the body in order move more powerfully with inner strength. This translates into valuable life skills such as a commitment to excellence, perseverance, stability and self worth.
  8. Connect yoga to literacy by linking literature and stories to mindful movement that activates cellular memory in a fun, exciting way.
  9. Guide students toward self-awareness in an innovative way and how to use this understanding to balance in their energy, improve social interactions, and act in alignment with their innate goodness.
  10. Foster an environment where children respect each other’s uniqueness and individuality, which is paramount to any anti-bullying campaign.
  11. Teach students how to be a grounding and connecting force in the classroom to lead themselves and fellow students toward reaching their highest potential. Such success roots the students in self-confidence and provides them with a solid foundation on which to build their best lives.
